GMP+ International: how a scheme can improve safety in the animal feed sector

GMP+ International manages the GMP+ Feed Safety Assurance scheme. This scheme is used worldwide to guarantee animal feed safety throughout the chain. GMP+ International has over 11,000 participants throughout the world.
What is the solution and what are the advantages?
GMP+ International uses ChainPoint, the chain information management system from Chainfood, for
exchanging data and information. ChainPoint gives certifying authorities, GMP+ participants and
other relevant parties access to a single centralised environment where information about
certification and auditing of GMP+ participants is exchanged. The information, authorisation and the
functions of the information system are configured according to the role of the user.
- GMP+ International uses ChainPoint for assessing al relations such as GMP+ credited companies, GMP+ accepted certificated companies and the Partners of GMP+.
- Relations always have the most up-to-date data, information and documents;
- Relations only have access to the information that they are entitled to, given their role;
- GMP+ International uses ChainPoint for assessing the performance of certifying authorities;

On the initiative of the Deutscher Raiffeisenverband, mixed feed producers have set up the Allianz Futtermittelsicherheit Deutschland (AFS). The objective of the AFS is continuous improvement of supplier management for affiliated mixed feed companies by coordinating various measures. AFS has developed a powerful system for evaluating suppliers and feed producers, which it is developing continuously to improve safety in the value creation chain. Using a common organisation means that numerous synergy effects can be obtained. With the help of ChainPoint, the AFS office works with its members and certifiers to handle the centralised management of suppliers and data on raw materials, providing rapid and comprehensive information about manufacturers and their products. The three cornerstones of the AFS system are monitoring existing certificates, carrying out supplier audits, and exchanging information about quality discrepancies. ChainPoint organises these three building blocks efficiently and provides risk-based coordination of the activities.
Farmers in the pork chain want to deliver their animals to the slaughterhouse at the best possible moment. EG Rheinland supports them in this by providing the required information and ensuring that the links in the chain fit together properly. EG Rheinland therefore collects information from the farmers such as slaughter dates and salmonella information via ChainPoint and in turn makes information available to the farmers automatically by fax or e-mail.
Landgard, Germany's largest sales organisation for flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables, consistently monitors the pesticide residues in its products. ChainPoint collects and analyses data from growers, laboratories and Landgard itself, after which the results are made available to suppliers and customers.
Wikiporc is a chain information management system based on ChainPoint technology. It was set up to support health management activities for over 1,500 companies in the pork chain. Wikiporc collects relevant data to obtain a clear picture of the health status of pig farms. Information is available in various formats for various groups of users, such as farmers, consultants and vets.
